Cayuga County Fishing Report for April 19 – 26, 2019

The Cayuga County fishing report below is made available from the Central New York Fishing Hotline for April 19 through 26, 2019 at https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/9218.html

Please visit that site for more information or to follow links.

Oswego and Wayne Counties have weekly fishing hotlines on their web sites as well and would be another good option for fishing reports; Oswego County (visitoswegocounty.com); and Wayne County (waynecountytourism.com). Though Onondaga County doesn’t have a weekly fishing report, their web site is another good source of fishing information in the region (fishonondagacounty.com).

A reminder that from Nov 1 to May 1, all persons aboard a pleasure vessel less than 21 feet must wear a Personal Floatation Device (PFD) while underway. For more information on boating regulations please view the NYS Boater’s Guide (link leaves DEC’s website).

The New York State Freshwater Fishing Regulations Guide runs from April 1 to March 31. The 2019-2020 Official guide has a picture of a mother and daughter holding a nice steelhead on the cover. The Fishing Guide can be picked up where fishing licenses are sold, or viewed at Freshwater Fishing Regulations

Trout season kicked off on April 1st and for more information on trout fishing please view Fishing for Stream Trout, for places to go view Public Fishing Rights, and for anticipated stocking numbers view Trout Stocking.

As of Friday, April 19th the following waters will have been stocked with trout:

North Brook (April 19), Salmon Creek (April 11), Owasco Inlet (April 10), and Fall Creek (April 3).

Region 7:

Lake Ontario

The Brown Trout fishing has started, and anglers are getting them on spoons or stick baits fished in shallow water.

Cayuga Lake

With the milder conditions, anglers should be able to get out in boats to fish for Lake Trout and Salmon around the lake, also for Yellow Perch on the north end. Brown Trout fishing can be good in the south end of the lake this time of year. Trolling stick baits or spoons in the off-colored water often works well. There should still be some Rainbow Trout in the tributaries.

Owasco Lake

Reminder: Walleye and Northern Pike season closed on March 15.

Skaneateles Lake

The DEC launch is now open, and one dock is in the water. Anglers are getting some Yellow Perch on the lake. The Rainbow Trout fishing in Grout Brook has been slow but there are likely still some Rainbow Trout in the tributaries.
