Wayne County Fishing Report for December 5, 2017

Streams-There have been some nice steelhead coming from Maxwell, fishing the south side of Lake Road. Use sacs and bright orange beads. The great thing about Maxwell is there is plenty of parking available on both sides of Lake Road.

Yesterday, the water flow was perfect and with moderate temps predicted the stream will not freeze-over.

You can also fish Hughes’ Marina near the hamlet of Pultneyville. And don’t forget the Sodus Pier which has produced steelhead and browns.

Bays- We are still in the middle of the best perch fishing in years. Every bay in the county is producing 10 to 12-inch fish. If we get ice, this could be a record season of catches.

Try the points and drop-offs in Port and Sodus Bays. The perch are hitting small artificial minnows with fork or paddle tails. They are schooling by size; however, the big ones have been easy to find.

The wind has been relentless, blowing from a different direction daily… so plan and don’t take chances fishing the bays.

DEC pulled the docks this week so use caution when launching from the ramps.

Erie Canal- Widewaters had a little ice covering Sunday, however that disappeared very fast. You can still launch and fish that section of the canal.
