Located between Niagara Falls and Rochester, Orleans is a rural region rich with history, antique shops, museums, golf courses and waterside bike paths. The summer Strawberry Festival in Albion is popular and kids love to see Thomas the Train’s annual visit. The fishing is second-to-none, with inland fly-fishing complimenting Lake Ontario excursions.

Come out and visit the the place “Where fishing dreams come alive”.

The perfect spot to unwind from the everyday hustle of today’s world, Orleans County offers a simpler and more relaxed way of life. The small town atmosphere permeates the entire county, offering quaint shops, farm markets galore and a multitude of “Only in a small community” sights.

Visit Thomas the Train on its annual visit, Cobblestone Museums, brown sandstone buildings, barn quilt tours, lighthouses and so very much more await your visit. Tour the small towns along the Erie Canal and drive under the canal, the only place in New York State that you can accomplish this.

But the best known and most popular attraction within Orleans County is the year round World Class fishery that resides within our borders. Late spring, summer and early fall offer big water fishing on Lake Ontario. Deep running lake trout, football browns, acrobatic steelhead, fast running Coho salmon, elusive Atlantic salmon and those reel screaming, rod busting Chinook salmon, better known as the “King” all call the waters of Lake Ontario off Orleans County  home. Deep cool waters and an abundance of bait fish hold all of these species and helps with their fantastic growth rate.

In the late fall, winter and early spring all but Lake trout migrate up our 4 major tributaries following that primeval drive to return to their spawning areas. Several sportswriters have named Oak Orchard River as one of the top five tributaries in the United States for Brown and Steelhead fishing during these months.

Although these cold water species are the main attraction, the waters of Orleans County offer an abundance of fishing opportunities for the warm water species too. Drifting down one of our tributaries, spending a lazy afternoon on the Erie Canal or enjoying the fishing on one of our smaller inland lakes are all within your casting abilities. From the family outing to the die-hard fisherman, one can find whatever level of fishing that suits you. In Orleans County it’s always easy to find a place to drop a line to one of our finny friends.
